Gear couplings have mechanical device which connect two shaft hubs with the external teeth. It transmits torque between two shafts that are not collinear. When two shafts are joint with a third shaft the term called spindle. The main task of gear couplings is to transfer the torque when the shafts are misaligned.
There are mainly three types of gear couplings called flexible coupling, Grid couplings and Solid and magnetic couplings. Gear couplings belong in the category of flexible gear couplings that require no lubrication, easy to install and perform noise free operations and provide high torque and power to your vehicle.
Gear couplings have high torque density and high backlash to gear teeth to allow the angular misalignment. It is a small range and commercial type gear couplings. Due to large physical size it transmits huge torque. In gear couplings alignment plays an important role, and if it’s done correctly then there is enough room to handle increased misalignment during operation.
Gear couplings can be done at specific temperature range that might be change over time. So, the gear couplings should be flexible enough in changing. The design of gear teeth are crowned in such a way that it absorbs the angular misalignment and backlash provide scope for linear misalignment, which makes the join noise and vibration free during operations.
