Gearboxes is also called transmission is a rotating device that provide conversion from one device to another using gear ratio. The wheel pairs are coupled in order to form the gear ratio. Gearboxes has the ability to switch between the multiple gear ratios as the speed varies. This switching can be done in two ways manually and automatically.
Manually transmission: Manual transmission is the common type of transmission which are cheaper, provide better fuel efficiency, and lighter in weight. They are of two types are synchronous and non-synchronous. In synchronous, are diagonally cut and meshed together and a dog clutch is used for changing gears. In non-synchronous set are spinning freely, and synchronized by the operator matching engine revs to road speed.
Automatically transmission: It uses the torque converters which eliminate power lose at beyond certain speed and automatically override the gear above certain speed.
Gearboxes has two shaft seal style called input seal and output seal. An input seal is one in which offers high speed as both the internally and externally contamination forms a problems in the assembly. An output seal offers relatively low speed than input speed.
Gearboxes is widely used in vehicles like car where output of the internal combustion engine drives the wheel as these engines operate at high rotational speed. Gearboxes is also used in agriculture, wind turbine, industrial, mining, construction and so on. |
