Spiral
bevel gears is a kind of bevel
gears with helical teeth along with spiel
lines. This helical design produces less
vibration and noise than conventional straight
bevel gears and allows fast rotational
speed.
Spiral bevel gears have
spiral angles which increase its performance.
In this the shaft is perpendicular to each
other and be in the same plane. Spiral
bevel gears need much larger diameter
to transmit the torque. A spiral
bevel gears should be replaced
in pairs i.e. both the left hand and right
hand gears should be replaced together.
Since the gears are manufactured and lapped
in pairs.
A right hand spiral bevel gears
is one in which the outer half of a tooth
is inclined in the clockwise direction through
the midpoint of the tooth as looking at
the face of the gear.
A left hand spiral bevel gears
is one in which the outer half of a tooth
is inclined in the counter clockwise direction
through the midpoint of the tooth as looking
at the face of the gear.
Spiral bevel gears engage
more gradually than any other gears. The
spiral angle in a spiral bevel gears
is the angle placed between the tooth trace.
The Mean spiral angle is the mean cone distance
in bevel gears. Spiral bevel gears
are required to operate at high speeds,
high loads, and for a large number of load
cycles.
Spiral bevel gears redirect
the shaft from the horizontal gas turbine
engine to the vertical motor. It has vast
applications such as locomotives, marine
applications, automobiles, printing presses,
cooling towers, power plants, steel plants,
railway track inspection machines, etc.
