Spur gears are the simplest and most common type of gears. Spur gears are parallel to the shaft axis with straight teeth. These gears are meshed together correctly only if they are fitted to parallel shafts. Spur gears create very large gear reduction.
Stainless steel is one of the materials used in the production of the spur gears. It is a metal alloy used in vesting of them. Metal alloy is like a cast iron, composed of two or more distinct elements that are melted together. Another common material is cast iron which is cheaper and easy to mold. Acetal is also used in making a spur gears. It is stronger and can be mold easily. This material has features like malleability, strength and resilience.
In spur gears two gears work together to achieve gear reduction. Gear reduction is a process of translating speed to torque. A small gear and a larger gear are set up side by side with their teeth meshing. A spur gears must always be set up on a shaft that is parallel to the shaft of its companion spur gears in order for the teeth to mesh properly.
Spur gears are used in dancing monster, washing machine, electric screwdriver, oscillating sprinkler, clothes dryer and windup alarm clock. They are simple in design and inexpensive in manufacture. Spur Gears are noisy.
