| The
traditional raw material for Induction Furnaces
(IF) as well, as Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF)
for is ferrous scrap. With the limited availability
of indigenous scrap, we need to import large
amount of shredded scrap. However, imported
shredded scrap is basically shredded automobiles
and other household appliances, which contains
high percentage of tramp elements. These tramp
elements can not be removed in the steel making
process. For production of ordinary TOR steel.
The presence of tramp element is not a major
problem. But, as mini steel plants are shifting
towards production of alloy steel, wire rods
and flat products, high percentage of tramp
elements in scrap are not acceptable. Thus
for quality reasons, almost all steel plants
are using sponge iron for better quality products. |
